I was lucky enough to be an arc reader for this new standalone by Ridge Taylor. I have never read or even heard of this author. I do enjoy reading new work from authors I have never heard of before. With every new read I like to keep an open mind, a judgement free mind. Before even starting to read, I browsed Goodreads for any information on the author or on Duress without spoiling anything. I personally hate spoilers in books, so normally I do not read any reviews on books I plan on reading.

In all honesty, the first chapter was alright. It made me interested in learning about Barry. But as the chapters continued, I wanted to throw my phone across the room. I seriously was considering DNF'ing this book but it was only 103 pages long. I hate leaving books I started reading unfinished. So I tried to give it benefit of the doubt, hoping it would get better towards the end. Sadly I was wrong, dead wrong. Every single thing about this book was rushed and boring. The plot, the characters, and the climax sucked ( no pun intended ). The moment Derek and Becca met, they instantly wanted to do each other and Derek acted like she was his world.

In my opinion it wasn't love, it was simply lust. The characters were unrealistic and the way they're "romance" unfolded was not written realistically and it should have been thought out more and let the story fully develop. All the characters annoyed me to the fullest and the plot and events within the 103 pages were not fully addressed and prosecuted.

Barry is a narcissist, egotistical  asshole. Derek on the other hand thinks with his private part and doesn't think with his head ( no pun intended ). Becca in my opinion is almost cocky and full of herself and my annoys me. I don't know how to explain it. All the characters annoyed
In conclusion, this would have to fall under the "would not recommend " pile. I had to give this read a 1 star rating.  Sorry but I have to give an honest review.
